TREEHEART brown paper sculpture

culpture PAPER TREEHEART evokes the process through which tree stumps slowly change, decay, and eventually merge back into their surroundings. By capturing a moment in this process, I seek to reveal the beauty and wisdom of the tree. The sculptures are made from natural paper pulp derived from recycled paper. A small amount of pigment has been added to each sculpture, made from fallen leaves and bark collected from an oak, birch, and Scots pine growing on the land where I was born.
“The fact that paper is made from trees and then discarded moves me. I want to make the value and preciousness of this material visible and tangible again. I do this by poetically bringing the tree back to itself: from tree to paper, and from paper and pigment back to the imagination of the tree.”
On view during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven at the exhibition WOW NATURE, curated by Craft Council Nederland 17–25 October at De Fabriek.
